Ellen DeGeneres küsis oma jutusaates, kas ta kavatseb nime muuta ning Katy vastas, et «protsess juba käib».
Staar lisas, et teda kutsutakse niigi mehe perekonnanimega: «Mõnikord, kui inimesed tahavad mõnel üritusel mu tähelepanu püüda, hüüavad nad proua Brandi ja ma vaatan otsekohe nende poole.»
Tegemist pole lauljatari esimese nimevahetusega. Katy sünninimi on Kathryn Hudson, kuid ta võttis ema neiupõlvenime Perry, et teda näitlejanna Kate Hudsoniga segamini ei aetaks.
